”Directing” for Anime

    Speaker:
    Kobun Shizuno [Director: “Detective Conan: The Darkest Nightmare”]
    Description:
    The course goes over Director Shizuno’s idea on “What is anime direction?”

    Shizuno, who is also experienced in international projects, will explore his long career as a director.
    Profile:
    Evers since serving as the Chief Director of “G.I. Joe SIGMA6”, which aired in North America in 2005, Kobun Shizuno has been a globally active animation director.
    He has continued to act as the director of the “Detective Conan” anime films since 2011, when he joined as the director of the 15th anniversary anime film “Detective Conan: Quarter of Silence”.
    Shizuno’s major works are “G.I. Joe SIGMA6” (U.S TV Series), “ARMORED CORE FORT TOWER SONG”, “Detective Conan: Quarter of Silence”, as well as the upcoming “Detective Conan: Crimson Love Letter” and the animated film “GODZILLA”.

      “Project Planning” of Anime

      Assignment Work Required

        Katsuji Morishita
        Description:
        How is the “planning” for anime set up?

        Focusing on making anime, Mr. Morishita from Production I.G will give a lecture on the “planning” aspect of visual production.
        Profile:
        Katsuji Morishita joined Production I.G in 2002 and was promoted to a chief of planning section a month after. In 2010, he became a board member.
        Morishita also became the President & CEO of a group company "Signal-MD" founded in 2014.
        He is primarily involved in "Attack on Titan," "Ghost in the Shell: Arise," "Kuroko's Basketball," "Haikyu!!," and "CYBORG009 CALL OF JUSTICE."
        He is also credited as an associate producer in the Cannes nominated film "INNOCENCE."
        His latest known works are "Hirune Hime: Shiranai Watashi no Monogatari," "Kuroko's Basketball The Movie: Last Game," "Atom: The Beginning," and the 3rd live in theater "Yoshitsune Senbon Zakura."

        Let’s Experience “In-Between”

          Description:
          A workshop for In-between Animation.

          A “In-between” is both an entrance for animators into the industry, as well as what gave life to animation.
          Ms. Tateno, a former In-between checker from Studio Ghibli, will instruct you on In-between making.
          Profile:
          From "My Neighbor Totoro" to "When Marnie Was There," Hitomi Tateno dedicated 27 years of her career since 1987 as In-between checker in Studio Ghibli.
          Currently Tateno works as an owner-chef in a cafe in Nishi-Ogikubo.
          Tateno has also published "Enpitsu Senki -Dare mo Shiranai Satajio Jiburi- (Commentaries of Pencil -Studio Ghibli No One Knew About-)"

          In order to reserve a seat to attend the following workshops, an “assignment” must be turned in, reviewed, and approved.
          The number of available seats differ by the workshops. *No participation fee
          *Depending on the number of participants in the workshop, the venue may open free to watch for attendees without the assignment.

          • Period for Submission: Wednesday, February 1st – Thursday, February 23rd
          • Announcement of Result: Friday, March 10th
          • *Applicants who passed the review will receive a notification from AnimeJapan Administrative Office.
          • *Successful applicants still have to purchase tickets to enter AnimeJapan 2017.

          Assignment Description:
          Use a "background" and "situation" given to create a "hand-drawn illustration".
          You can mix and match any combination as you please.
          The purpose of this assignment is not to judge how good your drawing skills are. We are waiting for your original work.
